About
As a certified teacher, I am aware of the curriculum and goals of public schools in the area. I can help students from grade K-6 in any subject, and help older students in either English or History.
I majored in Elementary Education and History in college.
I have taught as a tutor, reading assistant, and substitute at various public schools for four years.
I am CT state certified to teach grades Kindergarten through Sixth grade.
I enjoy, above all else, seeing students succeed. Whatever challenges they have, it is rewarding to see them turn those into strengths.
Watching students grow and learn is why I teach.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
If a student or their guardian is interested, they may email or call me at the contact information provided. Once a quote is given we can discuss the following:
-Where and when will the tutor sessions take place?
-What are the goals of the tutor sessions?
-What challenges do they have? What strengths do they have?
If or when a tutor session begins, either the student presents work they wish to have assitance on or I will provide activities and lessons to reach the goals set by the student and/or guardian.
For example, if the goal is to increase a student's reading level, I may use a book given by their classroom teacher for the student to read and create lessons/activities that will accompany the book to help the student become better. I may also do activities with sight words, fluency, and comprehension outide of the book. A great example would be sight word games or running records, or even lessons on decoding and breaking down words.
Another example may be within a student trying to become better in history. Their classroom teacher has provided the lesson plans, yet the struggle may be in retaining the information. We may work on study habits, or reorganizing the information into formats that better suit the student. 3D box biographies, time lines, graphic organizers, or songs may be the solution.
Finding the best way to suit the student's needs is determined only through the goals and objectives set by the student and/or guardian. It is my job to then assist the student in reaching those goals using my experience in education.
