Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Listening to them about their teacher and developing a strategy for satisfying that specific teacher's expectations. We then go through the class materials, including specific assignments, to get organized. This makes it much more likely that a student will produce quality work. I then read drafts of written assignments to make sure they are coherent and touching upon all the requirements.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
BA and MA from Boston College.
Fourteen years teaching at Norwalk Community College in Norwalk, CT.
Thirteen years teaching and tutoring at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, Connecticut.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
$50 an hour to be paid at the end of each session. Zelle works best, but check is also acceptable.
How did you get started teaching?
Applied after finishing graduate school and discovered a real passion for it, especially on the community college level.
What types of students have you worked with?
College students of all ages and levels.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Successfully transitioning to online teaching in the middle of the spring 2020 semester. It was a horrible situation and a major challenge, but my classes continued without a hitch.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Make sure the tutor is willing to give personalized feedback. Avoid the cookie cutter model.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Be able to clearly articulate your needs, and avoid broad statements lacking in detail. Come in with a specific problem.
