About
Ever since a kid myself, I knew I was meant to be a teacher! What better job could I have then one who helps kids complete their academic careers with confidence? Their IS no better job than being a teacher! I can't wait to build a rapport with your child(ren) and start helping him/her/them ASAP!
My students learn through inquiry-based tutoring sessions and hands-on practice (i.e. self-to-subject connections, use of household and/or school-provided manipulatives, as well as with the traditional approach of using pencil and paper). Academic goals are dicussed during the first tutoring session (i.e. get an 80% average in subject) and discussed during each subsequent tutoring session to ensure tutee's goals are attainable or already met. Tutor will track and analyze test scores tutee receives via school and during tutoring session practice to ensure goals are attainable and in process of being met.
I have been an educator in the Bay Area of California since 2009. In that time I worked as an after-school tutor, a substitute teacher, a first grade elementary teacher, and with a life-long passion for learning, I decided to return to school and earned a Master of Science in Education degree in the Spring of 2014. Having just moved to Connecticut with my husband and puppy, I decided to transition to online tutoring!
I love "paying it forward." When I was in school, I needed help from a tutor. I developed a strong bond with my tutor who worked effortlessly to help me and develop a rapport with me. I love the opportunity to follow in her footsteps and help students like she helped me!

How did you get started teaching?
I got into teaching through musical theater, of all things! I was a performer throughout my childhood, learning to sing, dance, and act during that time. As a teenager, my musical theater director asked me to be her rehearsal assistant, and it is from her that I learned how to teach others what I knew. With having a wonderful teacher, I learned I had a passion to teach other myself!
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with students:
-2nd-12th Graders (singing/dancing/acting)
-Kindergarten-5th Graders (elementary curriculum)
-English Language Learners
-Students with academic and medical IEPs
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
My most recent job was being a Developmental Kindergarten Teacher (DKT) in California. (I no longer work in this capasity because I just moved from California to Connecticut two weeks ago). As a DKT I was fond of teaching my young learners the alphabet via methods of hands-on learning. We looked at picture books to find a particular letter we were studying for a week. We thought of words that would have the letters and letters' sound in them. We made letters out of play-doh and built letters out of colored tape. I would love the opportunity to tap back into my creative side to make learning at the K-5th grade level just as fun as it was teaching the alphabet as a DKT in California.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Make sure the teacher you hire:
1. Is someone you feel comfortable with
2. Models to you how to ask and analyze an academic problem so you can learn to do so for yourself in time
3. Asks you questions to get you to solve academic problems for yourself in time
4. Provides proof that they have your goals and academic growth in mind at all times (i.e. provides a chart of your academic successes/struggles so that you both monitor your growth)
5. Provides access to practice materials relevant to the subject in which is a struggle to you so that you can strength skills and obtain knowledge in subject
6. Can reach out to your parent(s) and primary teacher so all of you are on the "same page," and can best help you
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
1. Do my parents know I need help?
2. Can my parents help with this instead of hiring a tutor?
3. Can my primary teacher help me with what I don't understand?
4. What specifically do I not understand about this subject?
5. What methods of learning are most challenging for me?
6. What is the easiest way for me to learn?
7. What is the best time of day for me to learn?
8. What do I need to do for my brain and body to best be ready to learn (i.e. exercise, eat food, etc.)
