As a student, I am familiar with what makes a tutor great. I know that it is often hard to ask for help and hard to explain exactly what kind of help you need. I want to work through those questions with you to get to the answers that you need. Math is not a foreign language and should not be imposing!
I love math, at all levels, and find great joy in reaching the end of a problem. I also believe that loving a subject makes it infinitely easier to excel at it. I want to share knoweldge, of course, but beyond that, I want to convey a passion for the topic that I myself hold that will carry beyond any session that we have.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I begin by getting a sense of what the student knows and how they learn. From there, we can discuss a strategy for moving forward. This tells me, for example, whether or not we should spend time discussing theory and general methods or focus on practice problems. Each student is different, and acknowledging that is essential to their success!
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am a senior at Columbia University. I am double majoring in Economics-Mathematics and History. From the Econ-Math degree, I have a deep knowledge of advanced topics in both fields. Throughout this education, I have relied on the subjects that I studied in high school and so am still very fresh regarding the fundamentals. My history major has required intense communincation skills that have been essential in allowing me to translate the language of math.

$40 / hour online, $50 / hour in person
How did you get started teaching?
I began as a TA in college, working in a projects based class for a professor in the Computer Science department. I loved supporting the students and have continued to do so since.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with students from elementary school to high school and am prepared to work with anyone of any age and at any level in math or another discipline.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Look for someone who you work well with personally. As someone who has tutored and who has had tutors, that personal relationship makes it easier to be honest about what kind of help and support you need at any moment.
