About

I help each student to build on his or her strengths and to overcome his or her weaknesses to achieve the highest score possible.

My students work with me to develop an ambitious but reasonable study plan and I hold them accountable for homework and study.

In three and a half years as a tutor, I have helped students average over a 150 point improvement, with acceptances to Yale, University of Chicago and other elite institutions.

I love seeing students reach high and achieve the goals they have strived for. I am honored to be a part of this process.

I am so grateful for my tutoring sessions with Jon! Prior to receiving the tutoring, I didn’t know how to approach the SAT testing setup or certain question types. Besides going over relevant topics, Jon taught me many different strategies that made a huge difference in my performance. I particularly struggled with the critical reading, as many students do, but his tutoring gave me the strategies and confidence I needed to succeed. As a result of his tutoring, I was able to raise my individual practice scores by over 200 points -from the 500s to the 700s - eventually getting a total of 1490/1600 on the actual test. This played a huge role in my acceptance into Dartmouth, Brown, Johns Hopkins, and UConn’s Special Program in Medicine. I promise you that choosing Jon as your tutor will be one of the best decisions you make in your SAT prep.

    Letter of appreciation
    Dear Jon,
I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your patience and hard work during my daughter’s preparation for her SAT and ACT exams. Working with you during that period made her more confident in her abilities to answer questions and helped her develop better strategies to tackle complex problems. This level of preparation resulted in her scoring very high in both tests on the first try and made her highly competitive for admission to top universities including her first-choice schools, Cornell and Yale. She was accepted to both schools and decided to join Yale where she is currently a sophomore and very happy with her decision.
I am very grateful for your contribution to my daughter’s success and I commend you for your service in helping many students find their inner talent and achieve their best.
    Best wishes

Jonathan worked with my son, Charlie, for several months throughout his junior year. He came prepared each week with the appropriate materials and was ready to hit the target lesson as soon as he walked in. Jonathan has an excellent way of explaining information directly by being kind rather than intimidating. Charlie’s scores skyrocketed from the low 1300s to the mid 1400s! Specifically, Jonathan was able to pinpoint and target Charlie’s weakness of math, and contributed to an increase in his math score of more than 100 points! Jonathan was such a pleasure to work with, and Charlie’s SAT scores are evidence of the outcomes that Jonathan can help to produce.

    Frequently asked questions

I have a questionnaire which is filled out prior to the first session to find out the student's goals for scores and college admission. I want to know what the student sees as his or her strengths and weaknesses in reading and math, and how determined he or she is.

At the first session, I want to meet the parents as well and review the process.  I set out a timeline and the steps we will follow along the way.

I assign homework after each session, strongly encourage vocabulary development, and have each student do at least three full practice tests.
