Miss Jess's Secondary Tutoring For Language Arts

My name is Jessica and it would be an honor to help you build the skills and confidence with your Reading and Writing. I have been teaching English/Language Arts for 14 years now at a middle school in Connecticut.

I have experience with working with students with all reading and writing levels-- my approach is person first, student second. I pride myself on being the kind of teacher that students feel at ease with--to focus on progression over perfection. Some credentials: I am currently finishing up my Masters in Literacy through the University of Saint Joseph, current Team Leader, and I hold a Professional Certification for Teaching English Grades 7-12. I also have experience with teaching Reading Intervention & small group remedial reading classes. I also just finished up being a mentor teacher to UCONN NEAG students, studying to become teachers themselves.

I find such joy with applying new ways of teaching for my students-- such as using critical literacy approaches. I love helping students learn ways to dive deeper into their narrative and nonfiction stories, along with using voice in personal narratives they write or to compose a well-written argumentative style literary essay.

On a personal level, I currently reside in Wethersfield, CT with my fiancé and two rescue cats. I love working with kids of all ages, but find my passion is at the middle school level. I find joy in the little moments in daily life but also feel drawn to the bigger adventures-- like trying new things, traveling, and putting myself out there with meeting new people. I am hoping to also learn more about myself through becoming an online tutor for you, as well!
