About

I love chemistry. I believe that it is an amazing and fundamental science that, when used correctly, has the power to change the world. I know everyone doesn't love chemistry though, quite the opposite actually. Many a time have I heard anxious students discussing their fears of lewis structures, stoichiometry, and balancing redox reactions. Although it is true that there are many mathematically and conceptually challenging aspects of chemistry, I believe that with a stronger understanding of the fundamental processes and properties that govern chemistry, any student can learn to love chemistry and excel in their studies. Through tutoring, I hope to instill the same passion and respect I have for the subject in my students, as many of my greatest teachers have done for me. I am here to help students digest the myriad of facts and information presented to them daily in the form that best suits them, and I believe I am the best fit for this job because I am a student too. I know exactly what current high school students are being taught because I was taught the same things just a few years ago. At my high school, I am an active peer tutor, a member of the national and math honors societies, and a straight-A student. I finished honors chemistry with an A+ freshman year and am currently a senior taking a college-level chemistry course with an A average. Outside of school, I have experience as a private tutor in physics, algebra I, and grammar. All in all, I want to try to alleviate some of the stresses that learning chemistry can cause, so students can focus not only on earning impressive grades, but forming a meaningful scientific understanding of chemistry.

McGuire B.

Liam definitely saved my grade. He’s an upperclassmen that has been helping me thru my classes. He has been very patient but extremely thorough. He goes through the process’s and equations really well, and makes sure to cover possible mistakes before you make them. Very satisfied with my experience

Frequently asked questions

When I first meet a student I like to get to know them well and learn how they learn best. I'll ask them questions about study habits and techniques that they use in school to better gauge how I will tutor them. I believe that better tutoring arises when there is a strong, trusting bond between student and teacher. Without this bond, students may be afraid or unwilling to ask clarifying questions, something I greatly abhor. To establish trust, I like to be transparent with my students regarding my own experiences with subjects, good and bad; I also try to relate my past experiences to my students to better understand and bond with them.

I began tutoring because my friends needed help with their homework, it just grew from there.

I have only tutored high schools students but I have professionally worked with children ages 7-14 as a summer camp counselor.
