Teacing And Tutoring Chemistry. Ph.D/chem, Doctor/Buioorganic Chem
About
Dear Future Student:
I want top help you as experienced chemistry tutor. Allow me to introduce myself.
For many years I delivered lectures in Organic Chemistry and General Chemistry at Tbilisi State University and Biochemistry at Petre Shotadze Medical College (Academy). All courses were delivered in English. I taught IB (International Bach.) Chemistry - SL and HL and AP Chemistry at High School (grades 11 and 12) for 3 years.
I tutor HS Chem, AP Chem, IB Chem (standard and high level), college Chem, SAT, MCAT. I have outstanding skills solving problems within seconds, explaining them clearly at the same time.
I have high explanation skills and can very efficiently teach difficult topics of AP and HL IB: Atomic structure, Bonding, VSEPR Theory, MO theory, Thermochemistry-Thermodynamics, Kinetics, Equilibrium, Acid-Bases, SP, Redox, Electrochemistry, Crystal Field Theory, etc.
My students got high grades at final exams and good placement at many European and US colleges.
I tutored IB Chemistry and AP Chemistry with VT students for many years (in person - and online - only after COVID) and got more than 500 positive feedbacks. Students emailed their appreciation to VT, I keep those feedbacks in my inbox.
I did lots of instant tutoring, answering student's quiz and test questions and solving multistep numerical problems as they came, without any time to prepare, I helped the students to clearly comprehend and complete their lab reports, Internal Assessment papers (a difficult task for HS students).
Here are the major points of my tutoring philosophy and practice.
The major focus during tutoring the student is working on his school homework material and providing detailed explanations, where needed.
Next point is solving his textbook’s end of the chapter quantitative problems (e.g.: in thermodynamics, kinetics, equilibrium, ideal gas laws, atomic structure, quantum chemistry, chemical bonds, etc). The student achieves good understanding of the material.
Next step will be connecting the new material with relevant chapters already mustered - in order to have him/her understand the topic in full, get the full picture. After chewing it down in the tutoring session, I give the student similar kind of problems to solve independently, at home, for the next tutoring session.
This active approach will rapidly improve students school performance.
Preparing the student to take test requires similar, but not the same strategy. Despite the apparent and real difficulty of the test, taking it is teachable and can be learned in a way that will dramatically and consistently improve the students score. By focusing on the logical inferences and patterns which are repeated over and over in the long test, I will help my student achieve mastery of the test taking which will vastly improve his confidence and his scores.
Specifically, I seek to improve the skill set of my student so that the test becomes another approach to develop a good understanding of the material and the ability to really handle it.
I use a practice exam to diagnose strengths and weaknesses, and then I follow the plan that will raise my student’s scores as much and as quickly as possible. This entails teaching specific strategies with which to approach each different type of question.
In addition, I teach pacing and guessing strategies, so that the student will never again leave easier questions unanswered as the test time runs out. If there are any gaps in a student's background (in general chemistry, physical chemistry, organic chemistry), I help to fill them in.
Moving forward, each session will include a review of homework and techniques from the previous session, introduction of new content and new strategies. Once all the sections-chapters have been covered, the sessions will then start to include more practice tests and timed short quizzes.
This active approach will rapidly improve students test scores.
I have efficiently used those strategies during 9 years tutoring for Varsity Tutors.
