She’s been great with my daughter. My daughter is really comfortable with her. She always comes on time and I love how she keeps us updated on our daughter’s progress. So glad we found her. It was so easy to hire her and use this site.

Frequently asked questions

When working with a new student I like to begin with a free consultation with the family. I can learn about the student and what the family wants to get from my tutoring. I also begin with some informal assessments. These also provide a baseline to show growth in reading and math.

I am a certified teacher. I am certified in Elementary General Education 1st-6th grade, and special education 1st to 12th grade. I additionally have my masters in remedial reading and am Wilson Reading certified. I love teaching students how to read and how to comprehend what they are reading.

I price my lessons as:

1 hour= $50

45 minute= $40

30 min= $30

I have always wanted to be a teacher. In college I entered as an education major in both elementary and special education. I also majored in sociology to help expand my learning about the world I live in. I love teaching children and adults new things and watching that 'light builb' go off. I had such an interest in reading and specifically working with struggling readers that I got my masters in remedial reading (with a focus on students with dyslexia).

I have worked with elementary aged students in reading, math, and writing. I have also worked with middle age students who required specific, explicit phonics instruction.

I recently finished working with a 5th grade student who at the beginning of the year did not want to write. He had many ideas but struggled putting them into words on paper. After working together for a year, we just finished a passion writing piece of his. As we were editing he told me he already had the idea for our next prompt and could not wait to start. I had seen growth in his writing, but better I now have a student who enjoys writing and sees himself as a sucessful writer.

I would suggest to look for someone who has training in the area you want tutoring. I have training in OG, Wilson, and strucutred literacy. I am passionate about using structured literacy to tutor students in reading and using hands on models and visuals when teaching math.

I think they should ask themselves what they want. Is it a better grade? Do they want to feel successful? Do they want to learn this skill because of what job they want in the future. Knowing the answer to these questions helps me as a tutor know how to motivate the student.
