Day Tutoring
About
Hi, I'm Sarah! I graduated Summa cum laude with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, and a minor in Elementary Education. After completing my Bachelor's, I pursued a Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction with an Elementary Teaching License, graduating with highest distinction. Though I enjoyed business, I really loved my education classes and the opportunites to help students and make a difference in the lives of future leaders. Even before having amazing professors who were like mentors to me, I had a personal tutor for many years. The way she made learning engaging and interesting, as well as how much time and care she invested in me made me want to become a teacher myself. I try to bring these same qualities to my tutoring approach, and do everything I can to be that kind of teacher to my students.
I use lesson plans that not only cover the needed content, but are also customized to the student's needs as well as interests. I believe that finding out what interests a student and applying that even in they smallest way to instruction can unlock learning and make all subjects more accessible for students. I provide a balance between direct instruction, inviting critical thinking, I do/we do/you do practice, and a variety of other multi-modal learning strategies.
I have taught in classroom settings for years, but I also have just under a year tutoring experience in fourth and fifth grade math. I worked directly with students who needed additional assistance. Additionally, worked for six months in Spain as a Student Support Teacher (interventionist) at an international school. I worked with grades 1, 2, 3, 5, and 7, doing push-ins and pull-outs with both small groups and individual students who needed extra support in English, math, and reading.
I welcome resources or suggestions students or parents can provide. I am easy to reach and will provide fast responses. Feel free to contact me with any additional questions or to schedule a lesson!
