About

I spent more than 2.5 years working part time as a Level 1 College Reading & Learning Association certified tutor while attending Principia College.

During my time as a college writing tutor, I taught students to use writing and research strategies to help them obtain higher capabilities in writing. I offered suggestions, explained grammatical rules, and acted as a sounding board for writers to express their ideas. I also participated in a panel hosted by Principia College's writing center, where we discussed why everyone needs tutors. Everyone can use a writing tutor, no matter how advanced or novice one's writing capabilities are.

In 2020, I receieved the Mary-Vance Trent award for best political science paper at Principia College. “The winning term paper shall reflect intellectual curiosity, engagement, generosity of spirit, integrity, a robust use of sources, sound analysis, synthesis, imagination, perspicacity, discrimination, precision, clear and graceful writing, wit, and maturity of thinking."

I currently work full time as a legal research assistant for a law firm in Denver, and therefore can only tutor part time. I am available to meet on Zoom, Skype, Webex, or GoogleMeet from 6:30-10:00pm mountain time Mon-Fri, and from 2:00-5:00pm mountain time Sat-Sun. Please contact me to schedule a time. I charge $30/hr.

What I love best about tutoring is being able to help writers cultivate their ideas. Everyone has great ideas, but sometimes we could all use some help putting them on paper. My favorite moment is when a writer's face lights up when they finally understand a concept or how to better communicate their ideas. I love sharing in the joy of discovering one's writing personality.

Sarah started working with me by getting to know me as writer and learning about my writing process instead of looking for errors in my writing. This helped me consider all stages of my writing, from brainstorming and drafting to revision and editing, and not just the final draft. Sarah had a lot of exercises that helped me improve my own writing instead of having her just proofread my papers.
