About
My name is Sabrina Finke. I worked as an undergraduate writing tutor while studying for my B.A. in creative writing at the University of Riverside, California. I received specific training on grammar, how to aid ESL students, and how to edit graduate school applications and research grant applications. I'm currently studying for my M.A. in media and communication studies at the University of Denver full time, so I'm very familiar with the application process and would love to help anyone going through that same process this fall.
I know that analyzing literature, trying to put one's accomplishments and interests into a single essay and applying for grants and scholarships can be extremely daunting and stressful for people, so I'm always excited when I'm able to ease that stress. I love being a second pair of eyes for someone's work and helping them edit and reorganize their thought so that their messages are more easily shared and recieved by others.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Depending on the project, I tend to read through their work first and make annotations which we can go over once I've finished. I prefer to read the essay as a whole first and working to organize ideas and arguments before getting into the grammar and other sentence-level corrections. If major reorganization is required, I'll generally only address systemic grammar and sentence issues I see repeated throughout the work. Then, once the essay is redrafted, I'll comb through the essay sentence by sentence with the student to catch smaller flaws.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a B.A. in creative writing from the University of California, Riverside. As an undergraduate, I worked as an English tutor at the university's academic resource center. I also worked as editor-in-chief of my university's literary and arts magazine. Now, I'm currently working on a Master's in media and communication studies at the University of Denver.
