Accounting & Finance Tutoring
About
I've always had a passion for learning and helping others, and I've decided to combine those passions through tutoring!
I have a BBA in Accounting and an MSA from Grand Valley State University. I started my career working as an Auditor for a public accounting firm through which I gained invaluable knowledge and experience into a variety of businesses and industries.
After 3 years of being an Auditor, I made the switch into corporate accounting as a Staff Accountant. In this role, I was tasked with building an accounting department - from developing processes and procedures, implementing new accounting & payroll systems, and hiring a team. After about 1.5 years in that role, I was recently promoted within my company to FP&A where I will go through a similar process to build a finance department.
I am currently studying for the CIA and CFE. I was previously working towards becoming a CPA for about 2 years. Once I switched from Accounting to Finance, though, I decided not to pursue the CPA.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I like to get to know students both personally and professionally to ensure our sessions can be both productive and enjoyable - learning is fun!
I like to understand where the student is at in their education currently, where they're struggling, and then understand their short and long-term goals, both personally and professionally.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a BBA in Accounting and an MSA. I have about 5 years of professional experience in both Accounting and Finance. I've been a supervisor and mentor to many throughout my career. I was a part of many on-campus study groups while in college, but no formal 1-on-1 tutoring (yet!).
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I have a basic hourly rate for tutoring, which can vary depending on the degree of difficulty of the material and any additional research required to prepare.
How did you get started teaching?
I have not been a teacher or tutor, however, throughout middle & high school, I coached gymnastics and I have a lot of experience as a mentor during my 5 year career.
What types of students have you worked with?
Fellow students in college & entry-level accountants during my career.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
I think it's important to find a tutor with patience, a passion for the subject, and a passion for helping others learn and grow. I feel it's extremely beneficial, though not encouraged enough, to find a tutor with professional experience in a career path that the student is considering. It's important to not only understand the material but also why the material/class is relevant to the students' path beyond school.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
How many hours can I dedicate to furthering my knowledge by working with a tutor?
How motivated am I to truly understand the material I'm struggling with?
How is the material I'm learning relevant to my professional career after school?
