Ellie's A Tutor
About
I grew up homeschooled with different tutors myself and because of that I have an understanding of how to find a way to apply the lessons in a way the students learn the best. I am also willing to meet with the students in an environment they are confortable learning in. (e.g. their home, a library, coffee shop, zoom calls, etc)
I have been teaching American Sign Language for five years from second grade through twelth grade through enrichment classes and private lessons. I have been learning sign for seven years and have been certificed numerous times through Colorado Springs Shool for the Deaf and Blind.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I spend the first few lessons to find out the students level and start from the area they truly need the most help. If they are having trouble in a certain area, I try to reexplain it in different ways for them to get a better understanding.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I started learning ASL in high school through enrichment classes, private tutoring sessions and community classes from a local deaf school. I have been learning for almost seven years now continuing to progress my skills with it.
How did you get started teaching?
I had the opportunity to start teaching in 2018 from the enrichment school I attended. It started out as a class for second and third graders, but over the years the ages kept going up as the request for Sign Language classes grew.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have taught students from second grade-twelth grade. Mostly through High Coutry Enrichment Classes and private lessons with students I met through this program.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I just spent three months working with various schools in Africa doing Life Orentation classes. It was an increible experience and a unique way to expand my teaching ability. I even had a girl on my team who was also fluent in ASL and we would talk to each other using that sometimes.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Find someone who has a passion for what they're teaching and an excitement to help the students grow in this area of their learning experience.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What they are looking to get out of the tutoring? Are they seeking tutoring because they need help passing a class or are they trying to broaden their understanding in order to pursue it deeper in life?
