About

Elevate STEM Tutoring helps equip students to succeed through quality tutoring and really caring about each student. I spend time getting to know each student to help overcome roadblocks in a wholistic way.

I began tutoring in college, where I earned a B.S. in Biomedical engineering with honors, and fell in love with explaining things in a way that created those 'light bulb' moments. I have a unique gift of explaining technical things in easy to understand terms that is often exactly what students need to understand something new.

I have been tutoring since then (10+ years now) and still love watching people understand and enjoy subjects they never thought they could.

Laura is a very qualified STEM tutor. She helped our daughter immensely with her math anxiety. She knows how to analyze the source of a math issue, and how to use compassion and humor to help the student become more confident with math. I just wish we found her years earlier.

Laura had helped me immensely during my studies! If not for her, I likely would have graduated a semester late.

Frequently asked questions

For a first session, I will typically take time to get to know the student. Not just what they want help with and what they're struggling with, but get to know them as people. This, along with working on some problems they're struggling with help me really understand the situation and develop a good plan.

Oftentimes students have had bad experiences or have unique learning styles and understanding this can make all the difference in the success of tutoring.

I have a degree in Biomedical Engineering and graduated with a Summa Cum Laude and honors.

In addition, I've tutored for 10+ years, taught supplemental sessions in college, and taught calculus based physics

My rate is based on subject/grade level

I charge $70/hr for elementary/middle school, $80/hr for highschool and college algebra, and $90/hr for most college courses.

I started at university, helping friends and quickly joined the tutoring center. I tutored for 3 of my 4 years at university and continued afterward on the side of my job by referral only. I continued to love the process of tutoring and relationships built that I left my job and have been tutoring full-time since 2021.

I have worked with engineering students at university all the way to elementary school students. I've honeslty loved both and have had great success in both. If its a STEM subject I'm familiar with, I can help students at all skill levels.

I have a middle school student that has struggled with Math for years and has a math learning disability. I recently discovered she is an extremely kinesthetic learner and adapted our lessons to feature outdoor math with chalk on the sidewalk. It has been night and day with not only her understanding, but also retention of what shes learned.

1. Find a tutor that can understand you and how to explain to you. Some of the smartest people in the world are no good at teaching because they can't simplify what they know.

2. Find a tutor that makes the experience enjoyable. Learning really can be enjoyable (even math!) and you will go much farther in your subject if you don't hate it. I have had several students tell me after a couple months that they liked math for the first time because of me and having joy and peace chemically put your mind in a place to learn better.

What are you struggling with?

Is this a one-time problem in this subject, or could there be foundational concepts that you are missing?

Are you having a hard time on homework, tests, or both?

What do you hope to get out of getting a tutor?
