About
I was an elementary school teacher for 30 years. I taught 3rd, 4th and 5th grade, but then I taught first grade which taught me how to find the holes in students' learning. I do specialize in the primary grades. I love kids and that is why I do it.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
First I get to know them as well as they get to know me. Some kids have a phobea about math so it is important to have a good relationship with them. Then I assess them to see what they know and what they need to know. I find out their next steps to work on. Sometimes I connect with their math teacher at school so I can reinforce what they are doing and it also gives me more information about my student.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I taught for 30 years in elementary school. I have taught 3rd, 4th , 5th and 1st grade. I have also tutored 2 4th grade boys, 1 3rd grader and 6 1st graders. I also have a masters in Curriculum Development with an emphasis with reading and writing.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I charge 30 dollars an hour.
How did you get started teaching?
I started right out of college. I worked in Aurora Public schools which had a more diverse population which meant we had to differentiate the material to meet each student's needs.
What types of students have you worked with?
All elementary school grades. I have worked with special ed students as well.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
A past student got ahold of me on facebook and told me that I was her measure for all her teachers that she had. That really made me feel good and reminded me that I truly made a difference.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
First, see if you connect with the tutor by talking with them. See if they have a multi modality approach to teaching because we all learn in different ways. Talk to them about some of the ways they would teach a certain concept.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
A student needs to think through their own strengths and weaknesses. They need to think about what they would like to get out of this situation.
