About

ACTIVELY ACCEPTING students in Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2/Trig, Pre-Calculus, and Calculus and regular and honors high school physics, as well as those looking for help with college acceptance essays. Please indicate the grade of the student and specifics of the class (ex. math subject and class level (regular/honors/AP) ) on your request.

I am a book worm who loves learning, loves kids, and loves helping kids and young adults learn!

I am available to tutor students, primarily in high school, but also middle school and into college, in almost all levels of math, physics, writing, language arts/English, and government. I specialize in Algebra and Algebra 2/Trig, Pre-Calc, Calculus, and college acceptance essays. I also do some SAT, ACT, ISEE, and standardized test prep.

I really enjoy tutoring math and physics and helping students understand the whys behind the skills, in addition to how to solve the problems! I find students often have gaps in understanding from previous math classes, preventing them from being able to fully learn the current material, which one-on-one tutoring is perfect for resolving.

My favorite tutoring jobs are assisting high school students with improving their college acceptance essays. Let me help you or your student's essays stand out and shine!

I am also excellent at teaching essay-writing skills, as well as editing them, both of which I tutor into college.

I work with students on SAT, ACT, PSAT, and ISEE prep- all sections of the tests. My most recent student increased her practice SAT scores by over 300 points during the course of our tutoring.

I am very dedicated to helping my students do their best and achieve to their highest possible level. I include lessons, examples, and visuals of my own in our sessions to help them better understand the material. I put in significant preparation time before every session to make sure each one is as helpful and productive as possible.

I am quite good at helping develop study skills along with whatever subject we are working on- let's work through the problems, go to the text book and class materials, and make learning less intimidating and more fun!

I have been tutoring professionally for three and a half years, as well as previously having volunteered as a tutor and helped family and friends (including assisting my younger brothers with their college essays for Stanford and Dartmouth).

I have the tools and experience necessary to make online tutoring highly effective. This includes a digital whiteboard that allows me to work math problems in real time, as if on paper, for my students and to post notes and study aids specific to the topics we are covering that students can access at any time. For essays Google docs allows the student and I to discuss and edit together seamlessly.

I am also available to tutor vaccinated students at my home office near Cherry Creek High School.

It is so incredibly rewarding to find the "way in" to unlock a child or young adult's understanding- approaching the material in different ways until one "clicks". Because those "aha" moments are so worth it.

Emily is wonderful! On time, has prepared BEFORE the session with my students class notes. Spend longer than allotted time if necessary. Will also update you the parent on the students progress.

I had such a great experience working on my college essays with Emily! She is super smart, kind, and provides such great feedback. While going through essays, she thoroughly looks at each sentence in depth to ensures the grammar is correct and the content makes sense/fits the prompt. During each session, she is always very encouraging and continues to provide feedback that has truly strengthened my essays. Additionally, I really like how Emily teaches you skills that are not only applicable to your current essay, but that you are able to use in the future. I love working with Emily and would 100% recommend her as a tutor!

What I appreciated most about Emilys help with my essays was the care and attention that she put into each one. She was great at looking not only into the content of my work, but also at the structure and word choices of the essays. Emily was the perfect combination of encouraging and insightful with her comments and suggestions. I would highly recommend her as a tutor!

    Frequently asked questions

To begin, I conduct a complimentary call or video call with the student and parent(s)/guardian(s) to discuss their goals for tutoring, the specifics of the material, where the student is hitting snags, etc.

(There are also a few details to work out ahead of the first tutoring session regarding the logistics of tutoring either online or in person.)

The usual first step during tutoring is to work through the student’s assignments, but I often fit in lessons, examples, and visuals of my own to help the student better understand the material.

I put in significant preparation time before each session to make sure every one is as helpful and productive as possible.

I graduated from Cherry Creek HS with a 4.25 GPA and a 2330 SAT (800 Reading/Writing; 780 Math). I then studied for two years at Claremont McKenna College (11.14 GPA), but was unable to complete my degree at that time due to health reasons.

I always wanted to be a teacher from a very young age. I love sharing my knowledge with others and helping make the world more explicable to someone.

Look for someone who will give you personalized time and effort, adjusting their teaching style to you and how you learn.

Think about what your biggest challenges with the subject are and how you hope the tutor can help. What are your goals for the end of the tutoring process, both specific ones (like learning how to factor quadratics) and broader ones (like becoming confident in your writing)?
