KBT Language Instruction
About
With a background in sociocultural linguistics and language acquisition, I work hard to assess students based on their individual needs and desires to promote self-motvation and appropriate study habits. My classes take a communicative approach to language learning that hopes to leave students more capable and prouder of themselves at the end of every class. I also have great interests in creative writing, music, translation, sociocultural communication and community building.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
My first meting with a student largely focuses on getting to know the student and some basic needs assessment. Every student is unique, has unique goals, needs and motivations. I like to make sure I'm tailoring our learning to be meeting those needs.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been working in this field for almost ten years. I am an avid language learner myself, and I have dedicated myself vocationally to helping others tap into their language learning potential. I have a Master's degree in Linguistics, with a professional focus on English teaching.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
My pricing is typically in the range of $40/hr, sometimes varying depending on needs, travel distance, etc. Please feel free to contact me for more detailed information.
How did you get started teaching?
As many people do, I've beent eaching myself my whole life. I've learned that we learn best when we are our own teachers--though a knowledgeable copilot never hurts! I began teaching others more formally in high school, assisting the ESL department with high school and adult programming.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with students of all ages, nationalities, ethnicities, backgrounds, hopes, aspirations, jobs, etc. I have worked with illiterate students, Deaf and Hard of Hearing people, toddlers, refugees, Japanese school children and many more. Anyone can learn a new language!
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
A language learner must be motivated to succeed. Sometimes these motives are circumstances that you wish to change. Some of them are aspirations fo who you want to be. Some are opportunities you wish to take. Identifying your motivations is key to learning acquiring a new language, and will help you every step of the way.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
