Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
It is ideal to understand, first, what is the level of Portuguese mastered by the student and the learning objective that the student wants to achieve. From this information, it is possible to trace the teaching-learning strategy that best suits the student.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am a Bachelor of Portuguese Language, from the Universidade do Estado do Amazonas, Brazil, where I learned how to apply bases of phonology, semantics, sociolinguistics and discourse analysis in the practice of language teaching, in several ways.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Yes. The standard price of my tutoring service is $ 25.00 per hour for students at a basic level, $ 30.00 per hour for students at an intermediate level and $ 40.00 per hour for students at an advanced level. Payment before each class.
How did you get started teaching?
I was able to facilitate the understanding of Portuguese to foreigners, in an informal way, this motivated me a lot. In 2018, I had the opportunity to teach two Americans, one at a basic level and one at an intermediate-advanced level, and the results of the classes were surprising for both me and them. Practice showed me how
interesting and fun can be teaching foreigners and I decided to continue on this path
What types of students have you worked with?
English speaking and Spanish speaking natives. Willing to learn and overcome the challenges of learning a new language.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Progress in any language does not depend entirely on the teacher, but on the student's interest, discipline and responsibility. The role of the language teacher is to teach, guide and facilitate idiomatic progress. The student's role is to dedicate himself to carrying out the requested activities. It is also important to be specific and honest about your doubts and goals.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
• Am I really determined to be persistent in learning languages?
• Am I willing to face the challenges that arise in this idiomatic adventure?
• What do I really want to learn Portuguese for?
