I love working with students that struggle in reading and writing. I was an elementary teacher for over 30 years. I currently work with Title One Reading in Denver Public Schools doing contract work with students needing reading support.
I've had tremendous success in getting students to grade level reading.
I love using phonics based programs to help students succeed in reading and writing. I have used a variety of different programs from Orten Gillingham to Fundations. I always progress moinitor with students. I have often attended school meetings and will be happy to connect to classroom teachers.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I usually start by assessing students using several different normed reading diagnostic tools. I also like to get to know what a students interest are and what type of learner they are.

I have over 30 years of classroom teaching experience.
I have worked the past 3 years in a Title One reading intervention position through Denver Public Schools.
I have had several years of private tutoring.

How did you get started teaching?
I have always loved teaching. I left my classroom 3 years ago to enter a family business in property managment but I missed teaching immensly. I now work only part time for my family and with my remainder of time I teach. Teaching is my passion and I could not give it up.
What types of students have you worked with?
I generally work with students in K-4th in reading interevention.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I recently did a 10 day river trip down the Grand Canyon.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Find a teacher you can relate to.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Students need to learn to be advocates for themselves. I would teach a student how to do this.
