About

I work to alter my teaching style to match up with how my student best learns. I am willing to go the extra mile, and do whatever it takes to help a student succeed.

I love math, and I love teaching. To be able to help my students to not only better understand the material, but also foster a student's love for math is one of the best parts of my job as a tutor.

Sarah was relatable and knew the math concepts really well! I ended up getting a B in the class, I can attribute it to her great help.

Sarah is awesome! She helped my daughter get through AP stats and was able to explain concepts in a way my daughter could grasp and understand the material. She is very personable and flexible. I would highly recommend Sarah!

    Frequently asked questions

My strategies differ depending on the needs of the client. Prior to our first session, I always like to talk on the phone and get to know more about the student, what they are currently and what their goals are. I always try to get a sense for how a student learns best (visual, aural, social learner, etc) and then cater my teaching style accordingly.

In early sessions, I often work backwards as well, making sure that the student has a firm grasp on earlier material that gets built on before working on new material.

I have my bachelor's in statistics from the University of Michigan. I have nearly five years of tutoring experience, worked two summers as a TA for an introductory math class at Michigan, and volunteered as a Sunday School Teacher for children 3-5 in my youth.

For virtual learning, I charge $60/hour. Once it is safe to meet in person, my pricing will change.

In middle school/high school I worked as a nanny/babysitter, and always excelled academically. I started helping the students I babysat with their school work and found a love for teaching. I slowly began shifting over my work with children from childcare to teaching, and am so grateful I did!

I've worked with students of all ages! I've tutored students in subjects ranging from elementary school math to adults going back to school in college-level math and statistics courses. I am comfortable working with students of all ages!

Oh gosh, what a loaded question, especially with the world the way it is! I recently adopted two bunnies, Ruth and Michelle, and they are the lights of my life! I also have two guinea pigs named Shadow and Maple. My apartment is a tiny zoo, but I am filled with love and joy thanks to my little furry friends!

My advice would be to find a teacher that the student is able to connect with. I find that by making a personal connection with my students, the students tend to be more engaged and get more out of our sessions. Particularly with math, a subject many people struggle to enjoy, having a tutor that the student likes who loves what they do helps students even more.

One question that a student should ponder is what they hope to get out of our sessions together. Some students benefit from me re-explaining material, some students benefit from us working on problems together. This is something we can figure out together as well, but it is always nice to meet a student who has goals for our sessions.

Additionally, it can help me to understand why a student is struggling. Does it stem from a disdain for the subject? Is their teacher's teaching style not suitable? Is the class moving too quickly? Knowing these things helps me to address the issues a student is facing so we can help them to better understand the material and to succeed academically.
