During the first session, the student takes a pre-assessment that is aligned to current grade level standards. I look at homework/class samples, and discuss student goals. Based on this data I then craft an objective driven plan to address the student’s needs. Each subsequent session begins with a 5 minute "Fluency" component- during which the student independently practices a particular grade level skill uninterrupted. We then work on at least three practice problems that are relevant to the day's homework assignment. The first problem is modeled and completed by myself, the second is guided by me and completed by the student, and the third independently by the student. The final segment of the session is monitored homework completion. While this is the usual flow of a math tutoring session, each one is flexible and always tailored to whatever the student needs most in the moment.

I have a B.S. in Childhood Education from CUNY City College, and I'm currently working on my Master’s in Special Education at Hunter College in NYC. Right now, I work as an Academic Interventionist, where I help small groups of 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders who need extra support in math. I focus on identifying where they are struggling and using strategies that match their learning styles—something I carry into my tutoring sessions, too.

Yes, I have a standard pricing system based on lesson length and the level of support required. My typical rate is $45 per 60-minute session. I also offer 30-minute sessions at $30 for students who need shorter, focused support. For ongoing tutoring packages or multiple sessions per week, I’m happy to discuss discounted rates to make consistent learning more affordable and effective

I began teaching because I’ve always loved working with children and helping them grow academically and personally. After earning my B.S. in Childhood Education from CUNY City College, I started working in classrooms where I saw firsthand the difference that targeted support can make. Over time, I developed a passion for helping students who struggle, which led me to become an Academic Interventionist and pursue a Master’s in Special Education to deepen my skills and better serve diverse learners.

I’ve worked with a variety of students over the years—from elementary schoolers to adults. I currently support 3rd to 5th graders who need extra help in math, but I’ve also taught middle school math and science in Los Angeles, and even taught remedial math to adults. I’ve worked with students who have learning differences, those who need help building confidence, and others who just need the material explained in a different way. I really enjoy figuring out what works best for each learner.

One moment that really made my day was when a 5th grader I work with came up to me beaming with excitement to show me his math quiz grade. He had improved so much and was really proud of himself. He told me he couldn’t have done it without my help, which meant a lot to me. Moments like that remind me why I love teaching—seeing students grow and feel good about their progress

I would say look for a teacher who really takes the time to understand how you learn, not just what you’re struggling with. The right teacher should be patient, flexible, and able to explain things in a way that makes sense to you. Don’t be afraid to ask questions or speak up if something isn’t clicking—good teaching is a two-way street, and your voice matters in the process.

Students should take a moment to think about what exactly they’re finding challenging—Is it a specific topic? A certain type of problem? Or maybe just confidence overall? It also helps to consider how they like to learn best—do they prefer visuals, step-by-step explanations, or working through examples together? Being honest about what’s hard and what has (or hasn’t) worked in the past can really help the teacher support them in the best way possible.
