Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
My first step is to listen carefully to what the student wants to accomplish, we set goals together. I then conduct an assessment to see where problems may be arising, in areas such as notetaking, reading and memorization, concept and application, and essay writing. After the assessment we formulate a step-by-step plan of action with measurable outcomes.
I use guided questioning to help my students to take an active role in discovering the answers.Taking an active interest in discovering the information and knowing the answer are the keys to long-term memory retention and to being able to recall the information whenever and wherever needed.

How did you get started teaching?
I first started teaching in graduate school as a TA, and then later transitioned to a full-time faculty member.
What types of students have you worked with?
Students of all ages, from teens to seniors, and from all backgrounds and walks of life. In my academic career I've had the pleasure of working with over 10,000 students from Grade School to Grad School.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Find someone who will focus on concepts as opposed to rote learning of facts. Memorization is of course important, and particularly in classes such as Anatomy, but it is concept and application that lead to true understanding and long-term growth.
