You Can Do This! Tutoring
About
I love helping students succeed. I am especially fond of talking to students about their ideas and helping them write them down clearly and effectively. I've worked with students on their writing for many years. I'm a retired professor and college learning center director, and I helped hundreds of students during the course of my career. I can help you, too!

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I like to talk to students, parents (for K-12 students), and, where possible, to instructors to find out what a student's needs are and how all stakeholders can be involved in the learning process. When everyone who is willing to be involved is on board, I start working on actual class materials, always encouraging students to be in charge of their own learning as much as possible.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have degrees in linguistics and student development. I have experience as an ESL insructor, foreign language teacher, college professor, and learning skills center director.
How did you get started teaching?
I started teaching English as a second language to immigrant and refugee students while a graduate student at the University of Chicago.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with adolescents to senior citizens, both resident and international.
