About

I am very clear and helpful with my instruction and aim to find each individual student's specific way of learning, and guide them to organize their learning in a way that supports them.

My most recent student is a junior in high school and is taking both high school and college courses. He always had a hard time in school and did not feel confident in his learning. After working with this student for a month, he received two A's for the first time in his school career. Now, I am guiding him through the college application process. He is applying to his dream schools and he is writing breathtaking admissions essays. He is now excited about school and looks forward to working with me, organizing his work and succeeding.

My commitment to growth-mindset and "the power of yet" sets me apart from many other educators. When a child or adult says, "I can't do this.", I always restate and say, "Instead say, I will be able to do this."

I have a Bachelor's Degree in Art and Education from the University of California, Santa Cruz, as well as a Multiple Subject Teaching Credential from San Francisco State University. I have been a classroom teacher for over 5 years, and was even flown out to Hawaii to teach at a small private school.

I am passionate about teaching both growth-mindset and practical study skills that students will carry with them beyond the classrom. Also, helping students reach an, "Aha!" moment on a subject that they have been working on is one of the reasons I am a teacher.

Frequently asked questions

First, I ask the student what their goals are for us working together and what their concerns on the subject(s) they are seeking help in. Additionally, I ask them if they have any learning disabilities. Then, I learn about their favorite way to learn and what has been successful and unsuccessful for them in the past.

Once I understand the student's goals and learning style, I ask about their organization techniques. Together we make up a learning plan and begin.

I have a Bachelor's Degree in Art and Education from the University of California, Santa Cruz, as well as a K-8 Multiple Subject Teaching Credential from San Francisco State University. I have been a classroom teacher for over 5 years and have worked with students of all ages to achieve their goals. Additionally, I have tutored many high school students in high school coursework and college applications.

Lessons start at $50 an hour. If the student and I work more frequently, two or more times a week, the rate becomes $48 an hour.

I decided to be a teacher as a result of my school experiences. My first grade teacher provided me with support that no other teachers had. I was always very intelligent, but I needed specific instruction at a slower pace. This teacher became my tutor and we worked together through my college years.

My goal is to provide the same support that this teacher gave to me when I needed more help than other students.

I have worked with all types of students including: students with learning disabilities, students on the Autism spectrum, Spanish-speaking students, students in Montessori, public and private school and varying socio-economic backgrounds.
