About

I have a strong passion for learning and teaching science. Science helps me understand the world around me. It helps me be a better critical thinker and problem solver, to look at facts and form logical opinions. My own view of science drives me to take a practical approach in teaching. Because I attempt to see the practicality of science to aid in my own understanding, I focus on using examples and real-life applications to help others see the value in science. I value one-on-one teaching as it offers the best method to personalize teaching to improve personal learning.

I seek to be a life-long learner in many fields, but science definitely takes priority over all of them!

I really do enjoy learning new information about science and teaching methods. Learning helps keep my mind engaged and helps me avoid feelings of boredom. Teaching is enjoyable because it's an opportunity to exchange information and ideas about science and benefits all participants. Learning and teaching help me feel like I'm progressing as an individual.

    Frequently asked questions

Before working with students, I want to know what they're currently studying so I can best prepare to assist. There is ample online material that I like to use to help in instruction.

I'll normally ask for the lesson material and learning objectives to ensure we meet their course outcome. Or, if a they're struggling with a certain topic, I'll ask for that in advance as well.

This process helps me ensure I'm helping the student learn the material and makes the learning occur at a more personal level.

I hold a B.S. degree (Biochemistry focus) from Montana State University (Class of 2008)

I hold a M.S degree (Microbiology focus) from the University of Utah (Class of 2018)

I taught General Chemistry and Biology at the United States Military Academy at West Point, N.Y. (2018-2020)

I charge $25.00/hour for basic instuction.

If the student requires more specialized instruction or material, then prices may differ.

I began teaching in 2018 at the United States Military Academy, West Point NY. The Department of Chemistry and Life Science recruited me beginning in 2014 and paid for my Masters degree.

Teaching at West Point felt very rewarding and I really enjoy the general topics of science.

The best parts of teaching at West Point was the one-on-one interactions I had with cadets that struggled learning the material. The excitement that comes when the student begins to grasp the material is very rewarding and professionally satisfying.

Mostly college age cadets. Don't believe the hype of the academic prowess of cadets. The majority of them struggled with chemistry and biology - the subjects aren't easy. However, the cadets that put in the effort to learn did better than their peers almost every time.

I'm more than willing to assist any level. My daughter's (9th and 7th grade) get more than they bargained for when they ask for help on biology!
