About

I am bilingual (Spanish / English) and can speak, read, and write in Spanish to better communicate with hispanic families. I have an AA Degree in Liberal Studies, and a Bachelor Degree in Liberal Studies. In the past years, I've worked as an Instructional Aide at an Adult School in the ESL department in all levels (beginning, Intermediate, and Advanced) for 9 years; and have 3 years experience tutoring English for a tutoring company, grades K-8. Currently, I am a secretary of student records at a school district (10 years). First of all, I go over and beyond what is expected of me. I set goals according to each student's needs and am extremely organized. Lastly, I absolutely enjoy working with kids and will do everything in my power to get students back on track.

A pretest will be taken to analyse the areas a student needs improvement.  In addition, I will need to request a copy of student's current report card and student test scores such as CAASP or CELTD reports so that I can incorporate with

I was an Instructional Aide in the English as A Second Language Department at an Adult School for 9 years.  I've worked under an English teacher at a college in Puente Program for a semester (program was closed due to budget cuts), and have tutored K-8 for three years for ACE Tutoring Company (no longer in business).  Currently, I am a secretary at a school district and have worked in the Business Department for 10 years translating district forms (English/Spanish), and interpreting for Spanish speaking families.  I also work as a receptionist so I multi-task and very organized in what I do. I enjoy working with people and students.

I worked as an Instructional Aide in a classroom 20 years ago, and have had a passion for teaching ever since.

I have worked with elementary, high school, and college students.

A middle school student was stuggling in his grades, had a bad attitude, and was constantly getting kicked out of school. His parents started dropping him off at the district office and he sat in the lobby until his class would start.  He was in a community day school at that time. I began talking with him and he would converse with me about his frustrations at school and I would try to encourage him as much as I could. By the end of his eighth grade year, he left community day and went back to his former middle school because his attitude and grades changed dramatically.  He finally graduated and also made honor roll in his class.  I was so happy for him...I just cried when I saw him with a big smile on his face as he held his diploma up to everyone.  I thought...wow...a few words of encouragement a day really makes big difference!

I would definitely asked for references.  A tutor has to have a number of years of experience in thier area of expertise, and has to really listen to the student's needs according to the student and parent.  Find a tutor that genuinely cares, and has a positive attitude and a smile, and lots of patience and understanding.
