I have an associate's degree and certificate in small business accounting. Completing the QuickBooks ProAdvisor certification has been a big help for me to understand accounting software and generally accepted principles for accounting.

The most reasonable rate for lessons is $35/hour. It is the same I would charge to actually do the work.

When I was a student in community college, I worked as a tutor in the EOPS program.  That was fun.  I tutored a variety of subjects from Chemistry to Math.  From 2000 to 2004 I worked with the Los Angeles County Office of Education as a training coordinator for a system designed by LACOE.  I enjoyed occasional opportunities to teach and learned how much software users appreciated help to understand how the software system and accounting principles work.

Adult learners have been my most recent students.  I have volunteered to teach Bible lessons since high school.  So I do have experience with teaching children.

My most fond experience teaching was helping a student see the straightforward relationship of the accounting equation to the three elements of the balance sheet with the income statement being an explosion of the net income.

The teacher should have real world experience in business operations.

The student should think about:
How do I learn?  What pace is most effective for me to learn?  What is my expectation of the teacher?  By what measurement will I gauge I am learning what I need?  What is my expectation of the material I will learn? Do I need theory to pass a test or real world experience? Do I need special accomodations for learning? What is my timeframe for learning? How committed am I to learning this subject matter? Am I prepared to meet the financial responsibility to the teacher?
