Tinna The Tutor
About
I am Christinna and I have been tutoring since the fall of 2004. I hold two A. A.'s from Moorpark college. One A. A. is liberal studies and the other is for intermediate level Spanish. I have a B. A. with a major in Liberal Studies and a minor in Spanish from CSUN. I earned my multiple subject teaching credential from CSUN and added my bilingual authorization in Spanish (BCLAD) the semester after I earned my credential. I taught 5th grade at Canoga Elementary during the 2015-2016 school year and am currently teaching 3rd grade at Limerick Elementary as I begin my sixth year as a teacher. Prior to teaching I worked as a bilingual teacher's assistant for Sunny Brae Elementary for 4 years and as a bilingual teacher's assistant for the Simi Valley/Moorpark First 5 mobile preschool for 3 years.
As a tutor/teacher I enjoy working with and building a rapport with my students and work endlessly to help their improve their confidence level as well as their grades.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I first ask the client about the student's strengths and weaknesses and if they have any areas in specific on which they would like me to focus. I also ask about the student's interests and extracurricular activities to personalize my instruction and build rapport with my student. My first session I assist with homework and/or give some placement exams in order to better gauage where the student requires additional support so that I can pinpoint which skills and topics to focus on during future sessions. I also am very kind, patient, and motivating with my students and spend some time getting to know them during our sessions so they feel comfortable working with me and are able to do their best work.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been a private tutor since 2004 and have taught all subjects K-8 as well as secondary mathamatics and Spanish. I have 4 years of experience as a bilinguarl (Spanish) instructional assistant in elementary education, 4 years of experience as a bilingual assistant in preschool, and 7 years of experience as an elementary school teacher.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I charge $40 an hour for lessons in general; I only charge more per hour if I am driving a great distance and/or tutoring more than one student at once during a session.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have tutored all subjects K-8 so a variety of ages in elementary and middle school. I have also taught college and high school Spanish, levels I through AP. I have taught high school and college algrebra, prealgebra, and intermediate algebra. I specialize in elementary instruction, with reading, writing, and mathematics being my specialties as I received a great deal of training as an instructional assistant, college student, and teacher in these subjects.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
My advice is to hire the person with whom you feel comfortable and who you feel has a strong grasp of the material which they are teaching you. Meet the person for a short interview prior to the first session, get some coffee and discuss what you expect from the tutor and describe your learning style so the tutor can customize their lessons and explanations to you.
