About

My name is Brigitte Richard and I work at Learn French with Brigitte. I am an experienced native French Tutor who has been teaching the French language one-on-one since 2011 in the grand Conejo Valley. I live in Simi Valley. In 2020, I switched my classes to online delivery. So I now can help you wherever you are.

I teach anyone starting 10 to no limit of age. I teach all levels of French, beginner, intermediate and advanced. In addition to teaching the basics of French grammar and vocabulary, I also do conversations for more advanced speakers who want to improve or maintain their French speaking skills.

I also crash-train teens to pass their quarterly exams. I do preparation for specific exams such as French SAT, IB (International Baccalaureate), DELF (Diplôme d'Études en Langue Française) and other exams.

I have a French pronunciation course that you can do at your own pace which includes a live class access once a month.

Each student is unique and learns differently. We work your program together and then I tailor each session to your specific needs.

I'll be happy to take you on your French journey. Contact me. Brigitte

    Frequently asked questions

I tailor each session to your specific needs. I can prepare you for a short trip to France like I can prepare you to pass any French exam from French 1, 2, 3, 4, AP French, DELF to Bachelor's degree. If you need to go to a French speaking area, I can prepare you to the level you'll need, be it just for a few days or working there. I can get you from knowing nothing to fluency. If you’re a beginner, my emphasis is two prongs: pronunciation and basic grammar. Without the bare basics of grammar, you cannot build your vocabulary to speak it and write it correctly. However, my method makes it very easy to digest.
    - I have been teaching French for the past 12 years. - I'm trained in study technology and use these study skills to teach. - I’m a French native, born and raised in Western France in the area of Nantes. I graduated Nantes University with a Business Management degree with a specialization in import-export. - I worked in import-export, administration, marketing and also have an extensive experience in editing and proofreading in both languages: French and English. - I’m attentive and persistent.
    - My prices are fair. I charge $55.00/hour if you pay as you go. I have several packages that lower the hour cost, the best one taking the price to $44.00/hour. Ask for them if you’re interested. I also offer installment payments for big packages.
In 2010 my husband fell sick and needed a full time caregiver. I needed something I could control my own schedule. I have always loved languages and I like to impart my knowledge to others. I met a couple of American French teachers who asked me to help them improve their French. This is how I realized that I could teach French. I had no idea that I would love it so much.
I have worked with all types of students from 3 years old to 89 years old. I have worked particularly with two categories. 1) Teenagers who needed help to keep up with their class in school or to be prepared for a specific exam. I also gotten some from scratch who were not taking French in school but have been working with me to become knowledgeable and be able to pass their exam. 2) Adults who needed to learn for their job or wanted to learn for the pleasure. I have prepared some for short trips, others I have taken from scratch to be able to have a conversation in life in general and some in their specialty. I helped a couple obtain their French Bachelor's degree.
I love it when I receive things like this from my students: "Oui, j’ai eu un 5! Merci pour tout, je n’aurais pas pu faire aussi bien sans vous :) "I wanted to let you know that I passed the French Placement Test and will be taking Honors French 3. I also wanted to say thank you for helping me and pushing me. I could not have done it without you. Thank You." "Brigitte is a fantastic teacher! She is currently helping me learn French for my job and she is very flexible with your schedule. I am currently doing classes twice a week and it has been very beneficial and has me learning a lot faster!"
First I'd say, make sure your teacher actually speaks French. Then, look for someone who has been teaching for a while and who has gotten good results which you know per the reviews you can find on their Google page or Yelp page or on their website. Then have a lesson with the teacher and see if you like their style. This is important. You need to be confident that the teacher is going to explain clearly what you don't understand and that you're going to be comfortable asking any questions. If these points are in and you feel good, then it is a go. If not, call it a quit!
    1) What do you want to achieve with the lessons? What is your objective? 2) Do you have time to put extra time for homework and actually get the data of the lesson and being able to apply the data? 3) If you have a question while doing homework can you email the teacher?
