About

Need homework help? Stressed for an upcoming exam? Keren is here for you. Keren is currently studying Applied Mathematics at UCLA. She was awarded the M.A.T.H. senior award at Palisades Charter High School, where she also tutored for alll levels of high school mathematics for 4 years. Her devotion to the tutoring program at her high school earned her the position of Head Tutor at the Study Center.

Aside from tutoring one-on-one, Keren founded STEAM Team at at a low-resource elementary school to encourage students to further explore the exciting subjects of science, technology, engineering, arts, and maths through project-based lessons.

Keren's goal in tutoring math is to minimize the frustration and confusion often associated with the subject. She wants students to feel that they don't have to solve problems with haste or with pattern-matching, but that they can actually understand and learn to appreciate the subject.

As a veteran of some of the most difficult math levels, Keren is well-equipped with tips, tricks, and methods to best prepare any student of mathematics.

Not only do I get to discover new beauties of mathematics upon each tutoring session, but I get a sense of pride and joy when I see the light in a tutee's eyes indicating that they finally understand a particular topic that was previously challenging for them. Math is often disregarded as unuseful, difficult, and a burden. I want students to feel excited about math and to realize that the subject is so much more interesting and igniting than they initially let on.

Frequently asked questions

First, I like to get a sense of how this student typically approaches math problems. When I feel as though I understand the student's speed, level of understanding, and areas of strength/weakness, I develop a plan with the student.

From there, I'll teach confusing topics in a manner that is easy to understand and fun to learn, encouraging the student to take notes on stand-out ideas. Then, I'll asses the student's understanding of the lesson through practice problems in which I'll guide him through.

I study Applied Mathematics at UCLA. I am adept in all pre-college math levels, from elementary school math up to multivariable calculus.

I was a paid tutor at Palisades Charter High School, in which I specialized in mathematics and was promoted to Head Tutor of the tutoring program.

I taught a STEAM-focused club at a local low-resource elementary school.

A typical session would be $30 an hour.

I've always loved math, and observed that I particularly enjoyed helping out peers who had trouble with certain concepts or problems. I realized that I would enjoy structured tutoring sessions in which I can see the progression of my tutee.

I've worked with all ages, from elementary school students to college students. I've worked with students with learning disabilities, high achieving students, and unmotivated students.

A student was struggling with a particularly difficult concept in calculus. Her quiz score covering this concept was a D-. She booked me for an hour everys single day, and we used up our time to ensure she understood the concept like the back of her hand. When the test was approaching, I created study guides with her, tested her ability, and fuelled her with determination and encouragement. A few weeks later, she told me she got a B+ on the exam. She is currently studying engineering in college, and she told me that if I hadn't given her the confidence, she would have never considered a field of study with so much math.

The student should feel comfortable and excited to be taught by their teacher. They should feel that they will be supported and get the most from this teacher. The teacher should be able to help them with their specific concerns.

What mistakes am I continuously making? Which concepts am I not understanding? Am I doing poorly on tests because of my study habits or my lack of understanding? Do I need someone to check that I'm doing my homework properly or do I not even know hot to begin my homework?
