About
I enjoy working with students in a one-to-one setting. This is a great way to learn new skills or review overall skills without the interference of other students. I have seen wonderful improvement in the skills of the students I have tutored over the past 25 years. I have worked with preschoolers thru 6th grade students and enjoy all of them. The students and I develop a great relationship!! I provide continuous positive reinforcement and often surprise the students with a gift for working hard on their skills. Last year, I worked with students thru Zoom and these students continued to show progress in developing their skills. I am a retired Resource Specialist and have worked with students with many different types of learning disabilities. If a child has a difficult time learning, I am very good at figuring out whether he or she is a visual or auditory learner and why it has been difficult for a student to learn in the classroom. If a child is struggling with reading, writing or math, I have many different techniques to teach them skills that may not be used in the classroom setting.
I enjoy teaching and it is especially rewarding to work with students in a one-to-one setting. I enjoy presenting new skills to students and coming up with new ways to allow them to master these skills. I am creative in developing materials that will assist students in learning. It is so rewarding when a student learns to read, write and/or develop math skills after struggling in the classroom setting. I also enjoy communicating with parents and teachers regarding the student's abilities, learning styles and successes. After each tutoring session, I meet with the parent and have the student explain what we worked on. I show the parents what was accomplished in the tutoring hour.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
The first time that I meet with a student, I speak with the student and the parent to find out what the reason is for tutoring. Then I do some type of assessment to determine the student's skills in reading, math and/or writing. If the parent is interested in my communicating with the teacher, I will call the teacher, introduce myself and get feedback about the student's skills and academic needs.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a Special Ed credential in Learning Handicapp and a multi subject regular ed credential . I also have a Resource Specialist certificate.
