Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
My typical process for working with a new student is assessing and getting to know where their skill level is. I will tailor planned assignments or set a goal to work towards and improve on their skills. If students have questions for their homework they can also ask during the lessons. I can also provide supervision as they complete their school homework.
For Special Needs children, depending on what need they have, I will prepare activities for them to do and talk with them. (I am not a licensed professional, see below)
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am a behavioral technician and I also have tutored children before, including those with special needs. I am a substitute teacher for a private elementary and a instructional aide. I have education up to 12th grade in high school. I can also communicate in Mandarin and Taiwanese if parents or the student may need to communicate instructions in the language. Lessons would be in English, unless student may need further explanation in Chinese or Taiwanese.

Special Needs:
I am not a certified special needs professional, but I have experience with special needs children like ceberal palsy and autism. My experience in the past included working 1-on-1 with a girl with cerebral palsy and on another occasion a kindergarten boy with autism. I worked with them during Vacational Bible School and helped them get to different places and engaging with them.
I love working with special needs children because they have a lot of potential and positivity inside them. For these sessions I would prepare activities and games for children with special needs. These sessions can be to look after them while the parents/guardians are busy, like cooking, cleaning, or other work.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with elementary and middle school students, and special needs children in elementary school. I have also volunteered throughout the years (summer, school year, breaks) to work with younger kids. Some examples are:
-Vacational Bible School (1-on-1 helper for girl with ceberal palsy, 1-on-1 helper with kindergarten boy with autism, prepared and taught stories for children, traveled to Taiwan to teach and help under-priviliged children to learn English)
-Sunday School (prepared and teach lessons for Kindergarten children)
I do really well with younger students/children because I see joy when they pick up skills that can help them in life. I have compassion towards those who need help and love working with others.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
An advice I would give a student looking to hire a teacher in my areas of expertise would be to make sure you feel comfortable in the environment you are in (either in person, or online/phone).
