About

I have my Bachelors in Computer Science at UC Berkeley and have 5 years of professional experience as a software engineer at companies like Amazon and ZipRecruiter. I began tutoring in 2023 but have plenty of teaching experience elsewhere, having been a lab assistant for Berkeley's introductory computer science course and being an intern mentor at my company.

I've gone through all the stages of an early programmer, whether that be the frustrations of rewiring how your brain thinks about problems or the overwhelm when you realize how many languages and technologies there are to learn. I've learned plenty of ways to simplify and streamline learning computer science.

As for teaching, I'm confident in my ability to break down complex subjects and explain them in simpler terms. I can communicate ideas well, whether that be verbally or through visual examples. I'm also flexible in pacing. I'm willing to take things slow if a particular subject is difficult, or even jump to more complicated ideas if the current content is too easy. I'm more than happy to share my experiences being a software engineer, including the resume and interview process, dealing with imposter syndrome when joining the industry, and progressing towards promotions.

I recently had tutoring sessions in computer science with Anthony, and its been a game-changer for my university course. Hes not just knowledgeable; hes got this amazing way of breaking down complex topics so they actually make sense. His explanations are super clear, and he always backs them up with examples.
What really stood out for me was his patience and approachability. Computer science can be intimidating, but he made it a lot less stressful. He encouraged questions and took the time to answer them, making sure I really got the material.
Overall, Ive made significant progress in my class thanks to him. If youre looking for a tutor who really knows their stuff, Anthony is your go-to. Highly recommend!!

Frequently asked questions

I first want to know the student's experience level so I can cater the material and examples to something that is more digestible. In addition, understanding the student's goals will heavily impact what sort of things we work on (course work vs beginner learning vs personal project). Finally, I try to get a sense of what the student's learning style is. Not all students learn best in lecture formats, so in those cases having alternative forms of teaching is really important.
A Bachelors Degree in Computer Science at UC Berkeley. 5 years of profession experience as a Software Engineer.
I usually do weekly lessons, priced at $90/hour.
After spending a few years in the software industry, I've been looking for a way to help others with the skill set that I had. I decided on teaching because it allows me to do interactive work, build relationships, and see the growth over time.
I've worked mainly with college students needing help with their course work.
I think students should look for teachers who are passionate not only in the subject material but also in the process of teaching. Teachers should understand the circumstances of their students and be adaptable in modifying curriculum to match their students' needs. They should be attentive, great listeners, and have a sense of empathy.
What can I help you with? What parts of computer science are the most difficult to you? What are your eventual goals with computer science? How often and for how long would you like tutoring? What style of learning do you like best (ex: visual learner) ?
