About
Hola, soy Brent. Me llaman "Brando" en español. I am an accomplished non-native speaker of Spanish and several other languages, so I know what it is to learn another language! I share my passion for language learning with you during our private, in-person classes in San Rafael, Ca. I have years of one-to-one and group teaching experience (I won an "Excellence In Teaching" award while teaching at UC Santa Cruz), so I am confident I can help you have fun while improving your Spanish! I offer grammar-/structure-oriented Focus Sessions for high-school and college students who need to take control of challenging areas. I also offer "Catapulta" Sessions for people who want to boost their conversational confidence and accelerate their path to fluency. I adjust our sessions to meet your individual needs while improving all four fundamental skills--reading, writing, speaking and listening. ¡Aprender español es divertido!

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
First we speak about your goals with learning Spanish. During an initial session we also get clear about the areas where you are challenged in learning the language and we also use this initial encounter to establish which learning/teaching styles work best for you.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a Masters in Translation from the Monterey Institute of International Studies (currently Middlebury Institute of International Studies). I have completed certification programs in foreign-language acquisition methodologies (Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language, Teaching English as a Foreign Language and Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages).
