One-on-one help from a credentialed teacher. I have over 15 years classroom experience in middle and high schools. During this time, I have taught every subject, from PE to Algebra, from English to Biology. My primary focus, however, has always been in the Humanities.
Beyond the curriculum, what makes me a successful teacher is the ability to reach the student no one else can. Perhaps a bit of a misfit myself, I can relate to the struggling learner and help them build the confidence so vital both in and out of the classroom.
My primary focus has always been in the Humanities. History excites me and I relish making it come alive for students. I also hope to impart a lifelong love of reading to my pupils. Its already there inside, it just hasn't been nurtured yet.
I still feel my greatest contribution to my profession was when working with a student in Inner-city Brooklyn he finally understood a concept and exclaimed, "I was never smart before!" He was, just no one had the patience to draw him out before.
