English And Writing Tutor

I have a decade of professional writing experience, both in the academic and corporate world. I have a BA in English from UC Berkeley and MA in Creative Writing from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. I spent several years as an instructor teaching undergraduate students Research Writing/Composition and Creative Writing at UIUC. I started a creative writing workshop for kids of all ages at Barnes & Noble while I was living in the Midwest. I worked as a contributing editor on a literary publication magazine and have several years working in the tech world out here as well.

I have a passion for helping kids and writers of all ages identify their strengths and weaknesses: where does your argument/rhetoric falter and where does it shine? I also help with sentence-level improvements, focusing not only on grammar but on the best and clearest way to communicate an idea. When teaching creative writing, the effort becomes more about releasing tight control on language and thinking artfully about communication.

I bring all of this experience to teaching kids and adults how to improve their writing, but more importantly I bring my passion for helping others succeed. I love watching students evolve their writing and confidence. Writing serves as a fundamental building block for communicating effectively with others and strong communication is a fundamental skill for growing fulfilling relationships with others: this helps lay the groundwork for success in all areas of people's lives!
