Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I pinpoint the student’s learning needs, meet them where they are, and take them where they need to go! With 1-on-1 tutoring sessions, the student receives personalized assistance and the support necessary to maximize his or her success! This may involve tutoring, academic mentoring, or both, depending on the needs and preferences of the student's family. Tutoring involves in-depth lessons created to make learning easy and to pique a student's interest. Academic mentoring varies depending on the needs of the family, but often involves executive functioning coaching, college admissions support, and more!
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am a former pre-medical student with a dual Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Psychology and General Science, along with a minor in Chemistry. My psychology degree has an emphasis on education, neuroscience, and developmental psychology. Whereas my general science degree has an emphasis on Biology and Physics. Therefore, I specialize in teaching the science and math components of STEM. These subjects are often the most challenging courses students encounter; they are also deeply intertwined with one another. Thus, it can be very beneficial to have a single tutor who is well-versed in a variety of subjects. I strive to break down the barriers between individual topics and help my students understand these subjects on a deeper level.
I also have experience teaching a wide variety of classes outside of science and math. For example, I have over three years of experience teaching ESL abroad in Asia (both in classroom settings and private lessons) as I am TEFL certified. In addition, I help my students through the daunting college admissions process by helping my students through any part of the process (e.g., researching schools, meeting deadlines, write their personal statements, connecting them with volunteer opportunities, etc.).

What types of students have you worked with?
I have experience working with students of all ages (kindergarten – adults), including high achieving students attending Ivy League Universities, as well as students with learning differences (i.e., ADHD, Autism, Dyslexia, etc.).
I believe education is not one-size-fits all. I believe every student is unique and capable of learning. What works or makes sense for one student will not necessarily work for the next student, thus it is essential to choose a tutor who can assess the child's abilities and can tailor the lessons to suit the student's needs. My teaching methods are adjusted to fit the student’s preferred learning styles so they are appropriately supported and challenged academically.
