About

I fell in love with math 15 years ago from a tiny book I'd gotten from a Barnes & Noble while in high school. It gave me my first glimpse into the stunning beauty inside mathematics, and showed me the elegance of mathematical proof. Ever since, I've enjoyed the simple and deep explanations that mathematics has to offer, and found great joy in sharing in those mysteries with others.

I have a B.S. in math from Stanford University, where I studied things from algebraic topology to artificial intelligence. During the summers I was a math camp counselor for Stanford's EPGY. After graduating I created mathematical and pattern matching board games, and later on worked as a software engineer at Google.

I've tutored math since I was in middle school, where I went to after-school hours volunteering to help my peers. A founding-year student at Canyon Crest Academy, I helped create the math team there which now ranks among the best nationally. I concurrently took higher math classes at UCSD during my time in high school and loved sharing what I learned with fellow math team members.

I look forward to working together and discovering the sublime beauty in any and all areas of mathematics.

George is freaking awesome! He goes at a pace which makes everything simple. Each session was so illuminating I stopped having problems doing work on my own, and looked forward to investigating things I didnt even have to learn!

Frequently asked questions

Learning math comes from being able to experience mathematical objects. Many teachers don't know how to help students have these experiences, and they often lead students to think there's something especially hard about math.

I'm here to join students in the experience of mathematical objects. Where do they come from, how do we interact with them, and what can they describe? With the right understanding underlying a piece of math, working knowledge of math becomes far more intuitive, powerful, and enjoyable!
