About
こんにちは!
I have 7 years of experience in coaching students to pass the AP Japanese exam. I work with intermediate to advanced students.
I am passionate about learning and teaching foreign languages. I believe that a foreign language is a key to open the door for a whole new world, new perspectives, and new experiences.
I offer a 30-minute free consultation to discuss your goals and to see if my service can be beneficial to you. If you decide to take my lessons, we will decide whether to have lessons online ($30) or at your place ($40). After a couple of sessions, we can discuss whether you want to continue. Don't be afraid to switch tutors until you find someone who is really a good match.
Looking forward to hearing from you!

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I do in-take interviews regarding the student's goals, motivation, learning experience, obstacles, etc. I may give a sample test to see their knowledge of grammar and kanji.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) certificate from English Language Academy - University of San Diego. Although the certificate is about teaching English, not Japanese, I can apply the theories and methodology of teaching a foreign language to my Japanese tutoring.
I also coached high school students for 7 years to pass the Advanced Placement Japanese exam.
I also tutored Japanese students at a public high school for 22 years in all subjects except pre-calculus and calculus.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
The basic price is $30/hour, or $40/hour if I travel to the student's place.
How did you get started teaching?
I taught beginner-level English conversation in Tokyo, Japan many years ago.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have taught English conversation to college students and adults in Japan, have taught Japanese language to high school students in the US, and tutored Japanese high school students in the US.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I was reading cards that I received from my former students. I was touched by their words of appreciation that expressed how their Japanese learning experience had made impact on their life.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Meet the prospective tutor in person and see how you feel. Trust your gut feeling. Also, know the three most important things you expect from your tutor and/or your tutoring sessions, and ask questions to see how the tutor addresses those expectations.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Just like any medical treatment or psychological therapies, sometimes, for whatever the reasons, tutoring may not work out. Students should ask how long the tutor suggests students try before giving up.
