Important information: I can only tutor after my regular work hours. After 5pm I can tutor for one hour 3 days a week and on weekends. Prefer online unless in the Mira Mesa/Scripps Ranch area. Traffic is prohibitive otherwise.
When I chose my college major, there was no doubt in my mind that English and everything about it would be perfect for me. I have spent my life studying words, reading, writing, arranging, and rearranging words to communicate in the most efficient and effective way possible. I love to help students improve their grammar, find the main idea when writing an essay, or better understand literature. Having gained an understanding of linguistics through learning other languages and studying literature over the many centuries it has existed, I can help students break down words and sentences to attain better comprehension and satusfaction in their reading.
As I'm sure most teachers will tell you, their favorite part of teaching is that "lightbulb moment": the moment we see a student "get" it. When a concept that is entirely new to a student or that they've struggled with is suddenly clear, that's just really satisfying.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I start with ice breakers, allow the students to tell me about themselves. Students feel more comfortable expressing themselves, and it gives me insight into why they may be struggling.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I'm a certified teacher in Louisiana for art and English and in California for art.

I have taught middle and high school students.
