PreK-1st Grade Tutoring

About

Hello there! I have a MA in Teaching with a Specialization in Reading, a K-8 CLAD MS California credential, and have been a teacher for 22 years.

Got a preschooler ready to learn some prereading skills? A kindergartener working on developing number sense? A first grader who is above or below the class and needs some 1:1 attention? Let me help!

I can work with your child online from anywhere or in person if you are in the Menlo Park or Coastside area.

I charge $1.50/min. (20 minutes/week=$30, 1 hour/week = $90) Many time slots are still available in the afternoon, PST. I suggest shorter sessions more often for young students such as 20 minutes 2-3x a week. But, let me know what works best for your schedule!

I love working with young students because they progress quickly and are so excited about learning. I can see them grow right in front of me!

Im a teacher actually, but tutoring your own child can be a struggle! I wanted a stranger to teach my kid because I knew they would listen better. Laura helped my kindergartener get right on track with reading. During the pandemic our school shut down and my child wasnt getting enough 1:1 time from the teacher because she had too many students. Laura helped give that little extra attention my kid needed.

Our daughter was in pre-school when she started working with Laura. She was ready to begin to learn to read, but not old enough to go to kindergarten. Laura helped her read easy level books. My daughter entered kindergarten above grade level and continues to thrive now in first grade!

    Frequently asked questions

When I first meet a student I like to get to know them personally - not just what they know academically, but about their life! Kids want to learn from someone who is interested in them. Does your child like unicorns? Baseball? Singing? Knowing those things are just as important as knowing if they have phonemic awareness skills or 1:1 correspondance with counting. After determining what your child knows with some diagnostic assessments, I can design lessons personalized just for them.  I can show you their progress with real data and give ideas about how to help at home.
