How did you get started teaching?
My natural love of tutoring started in high school, continued into college (dorm, volunteering, side job), and as a professional (, high school, community colleges,university students) and my grasp of chemistry involved in so many important areas (environment, health, food), propelled me to teach students of all ages.
What types of students have you worked with?
Students of all ages, mostly high school and college students.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I saw the Pasedena POPs, with an orchestra, an enimgmatic MC who played the piano, dancdd, and sang. My son, who is 6 years old, has been in music programs since he was 9 months old, took to the music and expressed his interpretation with his own movements to the music. It is great to see how he expresses things he has taken in for years.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Look for someone who's pace (rate of speech, pateince with your expressions) falls within your comfort level. If you constantly feel lost, even at the end, maybe find a better match.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Is your lack of understanding from a lack of doing homework, reading, or taking notes? Or, do you do all that you can, yet you still find the subject difficult, and think you would do better if it was explained a little different. Most students improve after they have formed a basis of knowledge.
