About
I am a super passionate tutor with 20+ yrs of experience teaching both school and college economics and accounting. I am based in San Diego but happy to tutor online. I was born and raised in Johannesburg South Africa and moved to California in 2016 with my husband and four kids. We have 4 cats, 3 dogs and super involved in fostering cats and kittens. I am also a long distance runner having completed many ultra marathons, full and half marathons.
I love building relationships with my students and watching them grasp the concepts of economics and accounting. My philosophy is to ensure my students understand the study material so that they are able to apply their knowledge to any type or question put before them.
I make use of my own notes, plenty of examples as well as lots of past exams and quizzes in my tutoring sessions.
I began tutoring in 1992 whilst studying for my bachelors degree and I have been teaching ever since. It is part of my soul.
My qualifications include a bachelors degree in accounting and economics as well as an honors degree majoring in economics. I have also enrolled and completed numerous subjects through Mira Costa Community College attaining an A average throughout.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Firstly, I always make sure I am prepared and 100% confident to teach them the required material. I always spend a few minutes getting to know them as it really helps form a great connection. I am pretty good at assesing their level of compentancy within the first 10 minutes and then very much work at their pace.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have 2 degrees majoring in economics and accounting. I have been tutoring and teaching in a school and college on and off since around 1992. I also have really great notes and past exam papers that I work through with my students.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I charge $80 per hour for a private lesson.
How did you get started teaching?
I started teaching whilst studying for my first degree. I was tutoring 1st year accounting students whilst in my final year of my bachelors degree. I was then offered a permanent position at the same college a few years later to teach economics.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with students struggling to pass and I have worked with students aiming for an A aggregate. I also have taught students at a school and college level.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I just love it when my students come to me not grasping the concepts and feel super confident by the end of the lesson and land up getting an A on their upcoming test. This happened recently.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Make sure you find a tutor who loves what they do. The tutor must also really understand the subject material and be able to teach it in a way that the student is able to fully grasp the concepts at hand.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
The student should think about how many lessons they will need to get them up to speed. Also not to leave the lesson to the day before the test or exam in case they do not have enough time.
