About

I teach Math, Science, English, and SAT/ACT prep. I was previously the math department head at a private school that specializes in one-on-one instruction to students with learning differences and special needs and have a Master's degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Alliant International University. I studied Mechanical Engineering at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and have an English BA from Cal State Northridge. I have been a private tutor for 19 years.

It should never be the student's fault if he or she doesn't understand something. It is the teacher's responsibility to differentiate instruction and scaffold information in a way that the student can understand and enjoy. I love learning new ways to teach, and the best feeling possible is when a student understands an idea they once deemed impossible.

We highly recommend Miles and are super grateful that he was able to accommodate us this last year. Miles helped prepare my daughter for the SAT’s in both math and English. He has a vast amount of knowledge regarding the subjects and was able to easily convey the concepts in preparation for the exam. He is approachable, friendly, kind and full of encouragement. We’ll be calling on Miles when it’s time for my son to also take the SAT.

Miles helped me explore my love for literature. As a result, I now read for fun, something I never used to do. As I got farther into high school, math got more and more difficult. Miles made it much easier to understand. I enjoy math now and I look forward to learning more. I have severe ADHD and I get distracted easily. Miles is very good at getting me back on track without making me feel bad for losing focus. Overall, hes pretty awesome, and great at what he does.

Miles has been my tutor for 3 years in math for algebra through calculus, i used to never be able to understand these subjects but now i race to see if i can solve the problems before him. He makes the environment very happy and comfortable, he knows how to teach the subject exactly how you need to be able to understand it. With other tutors i felt weird asking questions, but with Miles he encourages them. I highly recommend Miles!

    Frequently asked questions

I like to learn my students' interests and hobbies so that I can approach my instruction in a way that is entertaining and engaging to the student.

I have been a private tutor for 19 years. For 5 years, I was the math department head at a private school that specializes in one-on-one instruction to students with learning differences. I studied Mechanical Engineering at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and have an English BA from Cal State Northridge. I have a master's degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Alliant University.

I have been teaching and tutoring since before I can remember. When I went to college, my parents tried to convince me to do anything other than teaching- how about business or finance or engineering? Teaching is my passion and my calling. I can break down an idea or teach a concept in 1000 different ways until the student has that "aha" moment.

I have extensive experience with students with learning differences or special needs.

Just because a person has extensive knowledge or experience doesn't necessarily mean he or she knows how to teach the material in a fun and engaging way.

What are your distractors? What would you rather be doing instead of classwork/homework?
