About
I teach Math, Science, English, and SAT/ACT prep. I was previously the math department head at a private school that specializes in one-on-one instruction to students with learning differences and special needs and have a Master's degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Alliant International University. I studied Mechanical Engineering at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and have an English BA from Cal State Northridge. I have been a private tutor for 19 years.
It should never be the student's fault if he or she doesn't understand something. It is the teacher's responsibility to differentiate instruction and scaffold information in a way that the student can understand and enjoy. I love learning new ways to teach, and the best feeling possible is when a student understands an idea they once deemed impossible.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I like to learn my students' interests and hobbies so that I can approach my instruction in a way that is entertaining and engaging to the student.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been a private tutor for 19 years. For 5 years, I was the math department head at a private school that specializes in one-on-one instruction to students with learning differences. I studied Mechanical Engineering at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and have an English BA from Cal State Northridge. I have a master's degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Alliant University.
How did you get started teaching?
I have been teaching and tutoring since before I can remember. When I went to college, my parents tried to convince me to do anything other than teaching- how about business or finance or engineering? Teaching is my passion and my calling. I can break down an idea or teach a concept in 1000 different ways until the student has that "aha" moment.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have extensive experience with students with learning differences or special needs.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Just because a person has extensive knowledge or experience doesn't necessarily mean he or she knows how to teach the material in a fun and engaging way.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What are your distractors? What would you rather be doing instead of classwork/homework?
