About

I have been in the business of coaching and teaching kids for most of my adult life. Ever since I had kids I have been involved in their lives as a coach, a classroom volunteer, and through YMCA activities (camps and sports).

In fact, the encouragement of so many parents convinced me to see what it would take to become a teacher. Many years after graduating from Stanford I began the teacher's credentialing process. In 2002 I completed my work and earned a Master's in Education.

When friends asked how did I like my new job, I responded, "It's the hardest job I ever loved." And it still is.

I have taught or student taught from Kindergarten to entering high school grade levels. My emotional quotient (e.q) is off the charts! I really do connect with kids (looking like Santa doesn't hurt!)

This year will be my 18th year of teaching in the Redwood City Elementary School District. The first 10 years I taught at a Title 1 school where about 80% of the students were second language students. The next seven years have been spent a North Star Academy, a Blue Ribbon school, a perennial top five California elementary school. I learned to help students who struggled academically and challenge and inspire those that found school easier.

Frequently asked questions

I will review with both parents and the student what they believe are the challenges the student is facing.  Then I will select assessments to help quantify where the student is as of this moment in time.

Our work will focus on strngthening conceptual understandings, improving computational skills and fluency, overcoming mental barriers and creating a growth mindset that strives to make math fun and even enjoyable.

I have been a team leader and district math leader in evaluating, piloting, and developing pacing guides for new curricula.  I've enjoyed working at Stanford teaching children of migrant workers during the summer with the goal of achieving more than one year of learning in the six weeks.

As a public school teacher I have always offered tutoring to my students one day per week at no charge.  The charges for tutoring for students who come to my home are as follows:

30 minutes --  $45

45 minutes --  $60

60 minutes --  $75

If I travel to the student's home there is an additional $25 fee.
