About

My work as a tutor primarily stands out with my concern and support for my students. Having volunteered as a peer counselor for 2 1/2 years and taught peer counseling for 2 years, I have a strong sense of empathy and regard for my students, their mental health, and their personal goals and success.

In addition to tutoring and the aforementioned counseling teaching, I've served as a TA for various classes at Stanford University over the past 2 years. To better prepare myself as a teacher, I have also taken education-specific coursework in effective science teaching and in teaching students with differing abilities. My service stands out because of my experience, my depth of knowledge about teaching, and - most importantly - the emotional intelligence I bring as a volunteer counselor.

I would highly recommend Blakes services; he is kind, patient, and brilliant! He came to my rescue by copy editing several of my graduate school admissions essays. In particular, Blake did an excellent job helping me work through my ideas and provided very helpful advice with regards to flow, length, and theme. My essays would definitely not have been as good without his assistance. 10/10 recommend!

    Frequently asked questions

First, meeting with their parents to get an idea of the help they're looking for (if relevant). Next, meeting with the student to get an idea of the type of help they need and how best they learn. Finally, a first lesson to see if I'm a good option for them.

I recently graduated from Stanford University with my M.S. in Earth Systems and my B.S. in Bioengineering. I have taken coursework in education, including a course on effective science education and a course on effective education for students with differing abilities. In addition to this broad curriculum, I have been tutoring/teaching for 4 years now. I have been tutoring privately since March 2020, and I have TAed a variety of courses in the sciences, applied mathematics, coding, and counseling over the past 3 years.

My pricing generally depends on the subject, the grade level (high school vs. college), and whether it is for standardized test preparation or not. For high-school level non-test prep tutoring, I generally charge $80/hour. For test prep, I generally charge $100/hour. For college-level tutoring, my prices are more variable and depend primarily on the academic field and whether it is an introductory or upper-level course. These prices are based on previous tutoring and teaching experiences as well as Bay Area supply and demand, but I am very happy to discuss discounted rates with prospective parents and students if these are unattainable.

I started with teaching math at Mathnasium and found I really enjoyed it! I began tutoring privately in March of 2020 and found that making a difference in my student's lives and passing on knowledge to them was extremely rewarding. From April 2021 to June 2024 (when I graduated with my M.S.), I was a TA at Stanford University in a wide range of courses.

For my private tutoring, I've mainly worked with middle and high school students. My teaching at Stanford has been for undergraduate and graduate students. With essay prep, I have worked with high school and college students.

I recently went solo camping! I enjoy going for runs, being outside, reading, exploring, and relaxing. It's great to have the chance to take a break every once in a while.

Make sure your teacher really clicks with you and matches your learning style. You'll learn best if your teacher and you are on similar wavelengths!

    Students should ask themselves:

    What is my learning style?

What type of feedback do I find most useful?

What will make me more excited about learning?
