About
Hello! My name is Zara Ahsan, and I am a junior at UCLA getting my bachelor's in Physics. I tutored all throughout high school in Math, Science, and English, and have extensive experience working with K-12 students in my previous job as a climate justice educator and activist. Transitioning from a student in a struggling school district (Oakland Unified), to a physics major at UCLA was very hard, but it has taught me to be creative in the ways I learn, and compassionate to those with different skills sets. In my university course work, I go out of my way to make sure I understand physics and math intuitively and can explain back the concepts, not just memorize equations. I can empathize and understand when concepts seem confusing, and have a lot of experience finding new perspectives to teach or analyze a problem through.
I get to know each student, their goals, and what excites them most about our subject of focus. I try to connect all lessons to this excitement, incorporating online resources that can help build enjoyment and understanding through intuition and play. (This is how I got interested physics)! I believe that once a student has a connection to the subject, understanding it becomes 10 times easier. I am excited to partner with students and learn together!
