Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I usually spend the first lesson getting to know each other and asking questions to better understand learning style. Then, I begin instruction from recent work they may be struggling with such as essays or tests from class in a sort of last in, first out style. I've found that this plays a huge role in helping to ease student stress and build confidence when preparing for school.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a bachelors degree in English literature from UCSC. I also have a teaching credential in English from SDSU as well as a TEFL certificate.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Yes I charge by the hour.
How did you get started teaching?
I got started substitute teaching in the Sweetwater Union High School District.
What types of students have you worked with?
All types
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I recently travelled to China with my girlfriend and had a wonderful experience visiting her hometown and some famous cities and attractions. We dined like kings and had some pretty thrilling moments in such a metropolitan and bustling city such as Guangzhou.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
I would tell them to never fret about English. English is just about sharing your experience with the world and everyone's is completely unique.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What can I do on my own? What can I get done here and now? How can I use my support system to solve this problem?
